Tenement apartment - enlarging by zoning by MUS Architects project

09 of March '20

Many Krakow properties, for rent or for sale, advertise having a "view of the Wawel Castle." In some cases this is true, in others no longer. The apartment that MUS Architects took for sale needs no such recommendation. The only thing it needed was additional space.

The designers came up with an idea on how to enlarge this space using its natural features and qualities. Thanks to a 3.30-meter high ceiling, they were able to create a mezzanine accessible from the children's room and the living room. This allowed the apartment to be divided into a living area downstairs and a night area upstairs. Both bedrooms were created above the entrance to the apartment, the kitchen and the bathroom. In the living area of the apartment, it allowed to separate the lobby.
However, the idea of suspension did not stop there. The designers created levitating solids surrounded by a thin black frame. This inconspicuous element is the backbone of the entire apartment - organizing the space and giving it a distinctive feature.

Large windows that let in light and a balcony overlooking the living room optically enlarge the apartment. This impression is enhanced by the choice of minimalist furniture and colors - white floors and walls, light wood and black elements, which enclose the space without dominating it at the same time.
The apartment was created according to the individual needs of the client, more as a meeting space than for the daily functioning of the family.
The design of the apartment in the Podawel tenement by MUS Architects was awarded first place in this year's SAW Interior of the Year competition in the Private Interior category.
