One of the most popular New Year's resolutions is the decision to sign up for a gym. If you are thinking about this kind of activity, we recommend paying attention to the multifunctional sports facility in Zabrze, designed by Adam Radzimski of BAAR studio, which was awarded in last year's Architecture of the Year competition of the Silesian Province.
The ReShape Fitness and Wellness Club sports center is located on the first floor of an abandoned hall complex left over from the former Maćko Meat Plant in Zabrze.
Intended as a sports center, the post-industrial building originally housed cutting halls, employee locker rooms, a fan room and other minor functions. The architects' goal was to fit the new functions into the existing fabric as well as possible and give the interiors a new character. To achieve this effect, the designers decided to insert a contemporary, softer form resembling a folded sheet of paper into the existing industrial space. Such a solution made it possible to achieve a clear communication layout, leading customers to the various parts of the sports center and creating a buffer zone giving exercisers space to prepare for their workout.

The architects retained the industrial grid of columns, bracing, stringers and ceiling structure. In order to harmonize the whole, the designers juxtaposed the industrial parts with contemporary elements with rounded shapes, and through the color scheme used (beige, yellow, black, white) they not only referred to the original interior tones of the former slaughterhouse, but also reflected the assumptions of the club's brand strategy through warm hues.
