Most of the houses that architects from the REFORM studio have designed are characterized by a minimalist body and a flat roof. With the design of the single-family house RE: VOLCANO HOUSE with a sloping roof, the designers begin a new chapter, in which they reach for classic solutions in a modern edition.
The investors approached the studio with a preliminary vision of their dream house - a one-story block with a patio and a flat roof. However, it was the 1,200 m² plot that determined the final shape of the block.
I had a lot of restrictions on the building area, and I wanted to make a one-story house with a partial attic.Thedevelopment conditions called for making the roof angle in the range of 25-35degrees," says architect Marcin Tomaszewski of REFORM Architekt. - I designed three roof slopes with an angle of 35 degrees and one with an angle of 25 degrees - thanks to this I achieved an asymmetry of the roof, which made a modern block out of a classic mansion, the designer adds.

Thedevelopment conditions imposed on the designers the need to create a compact block with a sloping roof. However, this was not a limitation for the architects - they decided to reach for classic solutions - a traditional body of the house resembling a manor house with a multi-pitched roof in a modern edition.
The main entrance was designed centrally, in the middle of the front elevation. A garage shed, consistent with the architecture of the body of the RE: VOLCANO HOUSE, has been planned next to the house.
The house has been designed with panels imitating wood veneer .

The hipped roof, despite its traditional roots, is far from the classic form - in addition to the aforementioned asymmetry of the slopes, the architects decided to cut the ridges at one height and create a skylight in the roof to light up the interior. The rectangular-shaped opening measuring 2 × 3 meters, which like a volcano crater lets the sunlight into the interior, was the inspiration for the designers to give the concept the name RE: VOLCANO HOUSE. The reference to the volcano also influenced the black color of the facade.

In the design, I added panels, imitating wood veneer, and to make the mass lighter, I undercut the entire building at the pedestal, introducing led lines around the building. Every movement on the facade had some kind of meaning, and I fine-tuned each element to fit in the right proportions - so that the unified mass would not be too heavy," Tomaszewski concludes.
