Does park lighting have to be boring? Not necessarily. Designers from the MOZI design team have created HUBS - unique lamps that have been located in Gdynia's Forest Park. What is their phenomenon based on?
The lamps were made as part of the "Gdynia Renewal: Revitalization of the Oksywie District" project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The project to create new lamps was directly related to the architectural competition for the concept of the Forest Park in Oksywie, which we wrote about on the pages of the A&B portal. Moving around this space is helped by lamps from MOZI.

unique site-specific
HUBS resemble the eponymous arboreal mushrooms we know from forests and parks. The natural shape of the hubs, as the authors point out, resulted from an attempt to adapt them to the unique place, which is the forest surroundings of the park connecting two parts of Oksywie. The form, which resembles a natural forest growth, allows to create a unique impression that transports us to a fairyland. In addition to the unobvious effect, it was important to introduce a lighting installation that, by adapting to the flora and fauna, will enable the wild character of the forest park to be preserved.

small and independent
The hub-shapedlamps are powered by photovoltaic cells, which allows this type of lighting to be used flexibly. At the same time, the HUBS have been programmed to respond to infrared light and the light of a neighboring lamp, and in response, they turn on, giving another lamp the opportunity to be activated. In this way, the lighting works like a system of interconnected vessels, illuminating the forest route in an unusual way.

The lamp housing was made of epoxy resin. Arboreal fungi such as the huba are protected in Poland, so the form of the lamp shade was pulled from a dead hub from a fallen tree, without interfering with nature. However, the HUBS are ephemeral - as a project they were envisaged temporarily and will be replaced by classic lamps in the coming years. It is worth taking advantage of this unique solution located in Gdynia's Oksywie, while hoping to find HUBS somewhere else.
