A duo of Tri-City designers operating under the name and.home - Katarzyna Piechowiak and Magdalena Hass - prepared the remodeling and arrangement of a small apartment for a young couple in Gdynia, inspired by local modernism. The architects filled the space with design icons and furniture and accessories from the new wave of Polish designers or niche manufactures.
The forty-square-meter apartment consists of a living room with a bedroom separated by a glass door, a simple but functional separate kitchen and a "bathroom box" located between the kitchen and living area, whose monochromatic character is broken by Oskar Zięta's yellow PLOPP stool, according to the project's authors.

Ola Kloc: What was the priority for the investors?
and.home: Functional change of the apartment and giving space was a priority at the beginning of the cooperation. The apartment is only 40 m², and we eliminated unnecessary room divisions in it. In terms of the visual aspect, both the investors and us wanted to preserve the Gdynia climate, the laid-back atmosphere. We absolutely did not want to achieve the effect of an apartment "from a catalog".
Ola: What was the biggest challenge, and what gave you the most pleasure during the design process?
and.home: We waited a long time for confirmation from the builder about the possibility of removing the walls. The next step was to give a new function without restrictions. The greatest pleasure for us was the openness of the investors and their creativity! The first version of the project was accepted practically without amendments.

Ola: The interior has no shortage of design icons, such as the iconic RM58 armchair designed by Roman Modzelewski, according to what key did you select accessories for the interior?
and.home: We wanted to create an apartment that corresponded to the architecture of Gdynia, hence the references to modernism, vintage furniture and absolute classics of "old" Polish design such as the red-blooded RM58 armchair. We relied on local companies, most of the furnishings are from lumann design, the lamps are of Polish manufacture.

Ola: An interesting solution is the decoration in the bedroom - the pattern and material used on the floor is extended on the wall behind the bed, where did you get this idea?
and.home: In the bedroom, the first thing that comes to the fore is the headrest - made from the floor, which not only decorates this room, but gives character and warms up the interior. It's a clever, yet very simple treatment that delights.
