Szczecin will be enriched with another green space. Construction of a sensory pocket park in Niebuszewo will begin soon.
One of the winning projects of last year's Citizens' Budget in Szczecin was the concept of creating a small Pocket Park on undeveloped green areas near the Maksymilian Golisz Elementary School No. 41. Maximilian Golisz Elementary School. After a year, the City announced the start of construction according to the design made by Authorial Design Studio Architect Karol Barcz.

garden of the senses
The park with the mysterious name "Garden of the Senses" will appear on a school plot on Niemcewicza street, near the building of the educational institution and the sports field it uses. The area will be open to the public, although probably in the morning hours its main users will be children studying at the nearby school. It is with them in mind that the concept of a sensory pocket garden was developed. The youngest children will therefore have at their disposal devices engaging various senses - such as a dendrophone and dance chimes for playing with sound, balance boards and posts to help exercise the sense of balance, ora"cuddle wall" to stimulate the sense of touch and spatial imagination. The senses of sight and smell will be stimulated primarily by the vegetation in which the Szczecin "Garden of the Senses" will be bathed. The park will also feature diverse surfaces - there will be paths covered with mineral material, pebbles, hanit boards or trunks. Pupils and students will also be served by a "green classroom" designed for outdoor classroom activities and a tipi, which will provide the right amount of shade during the greatest heat.

a park for everyone
In addition to children, the new park in Niebuszewo will also serve residents. "Garden of the Senses" will therefore not only be an object for education, but also a space for rest and recreation. This will be ensured by the shape of the terrain and the small architecture implemented in the park. The available terrain will therefore be diverse - from the alleys running around the intensively landscaped sensory playground, through the leisure section immersed in greenery with benches and hammocks, to the clearing overgrown with low grass, intended for relaxation and outdoor games. On the south side, three elongated benches will be embedded in the slope, which will allow for resting and observing the activities taking place in the clearing. An additional feature of the park will be a community garden for use by residents and alumni of a nearby elementary school.

with respect for greenery
"The Garden of Senses" was designed on an area that is already covered with vegetation. The authors planned the park in such a way as to preserve as much as possible the existing stand of trees in the area. It will be joined by a significant number of new low and medium-height plantings - these will include shrubs, perennials, grasses and climbers. The garden will change periodically, as in the spring it is planned to plant flowerbeds filled with crocuses and wood anemones. It is also interesting to use several fruiting shrubs - strawberries, red currants and blueberries. The fruits they offer will fit into the sensory "program" of the emerging pocket park.

The entire investment will cost PLN 1,893,700, and the contractor has 160 days from the signing of the contract to complete it. We can therefore expect that as early as next spring the "Garden of the Senses" will be used by students of Elementary School No. 41 and residents of Niebuszewo.
