The construction of the Center for Local Activity in Wroclaw's Maślice neighborhood has recently begun. The minimalist building with the residents of the estate in mind was designed by architects from the Arch_it studio.

The purpose of the Local Activity Center is to create and sustain social and cultural life in Wroclaw's Maślice neighborhood. This place is to foster involvement in local activities, build a sense of belonging, become a place friendly to all users, a space for meetings and learning. The project was created in cooperation with residents and with the involvement of the neighborhood council, which allowed to create a functional program tailored to the needs of the surrounding community.

The facility is being built on Suwalska Street, adjacent to the school and kindergarten complex. The center will be accessible both from the school grounds and from the pedestrian and bicycle path connecting the surrounding residential area.

The building is formed by two offset parts designed on a rectangular plan, connected by a common entrance hall. The minimalist, light body of the one-story center building is varied by glazing and geometric texture on the facade. Inside, a small library with a reading room, two classrooms, a seniors' club, a multi-purpose room, an office of the Estate Council and auxiliary and technical rooms are planned.

Due to economic assumptions about the way the building is to be implemented and operated, appropriate design and material solutions were adopted. The one-story building has a simple form resulting from the functional layout and the passive energy-saving strategies applied. The canopy and composition of glazing are the main means of expression while the finishing materials used emphasize the modest expression of the building, the project authors write. A simple structural layout with short spans allows for economical construction of the building. Most of the internal partitions have been designed as lightweight skeletal walls, so that future modifications of the building's functional layout are possible within the framework of the users' changing needs, the architects from Arch-it add.

The building was tailored to the shape and small size of the plot. Its location in the central part of it allowed for the separation of the entrance zone located on the north and the recreation zone on the south side. Around the center's building are planned elements of small architecture - benches with seats of wooden profiles, waste garbage cans and bicycle racks. It is also planned to install built-in lighting fixtures that provide illumination in the entrance area and on the covered terraces, as well as plantings - low greenery, trees, shrubs and extensive greenery. Rain gardens are also planned, which will be a rainwater bioretention system linked to a nearby drainage ditch.

According to the project's authors, the building will be equipped with environmentally friendly solutions in terms of appropriate use of solar energy, bioretention, heat recovery and photovoltaic systems, what's more, when selecting building materials, the architects were guided by the material's ecological life expectancy (LCA) indicators.
