Viewing platform,
design: Archermit
After six years of hard struggle, the Chinese architectural bureau Archermit has unveiled a viewing platform, located above the cliffs of the Grand Canyon of the Nujiang River, in the Tibetan village of Buze, Baxoi County.

On a risky stretch of road
Along the steep slopes stretches China's longest highway, the G318, known for its many extreme gradients and series of steep, sharp turns. A viewing area has been established at its most dangerous section of the road, at the 72nd turn, known as the "road to heaven."

bridge among the clouds
The 37-meter-long steel structure forms the form of a curve, referring to the winding course of the road. The floor is made of glass, providing visitors with the impression of walking in the skies. The weather-resistant steel, in a shade of Tibetan red, alludes to the local culture, and its rough texture harmoniously blends with the harsh landscapes of its surroundings.

additional attractions over the precipice
Below the glass platform are a clifftop restaurant, a cafe and a supermarket. What's more, below the platform, the two banks of the Nujiang River are connected by a tyrolean and a suspension bridge, which creates a feeling of uncertainty for visitors - strong winds heighten the sensation of wobbliness, and the transparent floor raises adrenaline.

traditional construction methods
in the face of extreme conditions
Extremely dangerous working conditions forced engineers to use traditional construction methods, which proved necessary in the face of the challenges posed by the harsh environment. Unstable ground, high winds and difficult access to certain locations required precise techniques and diligence in every stage of construction.

For travelers using the G318 highway, this construction provides an opportunity to leave their vehicles to enjoy the scenic views and directly interact with the elements, testing their courage and skills in unpredictable conditions. For many, this can be an unforgettable experience that combines both adrenaline and proximity to nature.
