On Monday, October 12, Bialoleka announced the results of a competition for a school building. The first prize went to the Warsaw studio of Piotr Bujnowski. The jury also awarded second place and two third places ex aequo, as well as five honorable mentions.
The competition concerned the development of an architectural concept for a 36-unit facility for 900 students (32 grades I-VIII and 4 "pre-schools" including an integration branch), along with a complex of playing fields, a playground, a parking lot and a green area. The building is planned on a plot of more than 3.2 hectares. The purpose of the competition was to select the best architectural concept in terms of visual, usability and economy. Thirty-nine studios applied to participate in the architectural competition, of which 24 passed the formal evaluation and were invited to submit competition works. Ultimately, the office received 18 works. Jan Mackiewicz, Deputy Mayor of Bialoleka, thanked the architects:
I would like to thank all the studios and architects who submitted their works in this competition. The concepts were very original and valuable for creating a new face of Bialoleka. The place where the school will be built is unusual and has great natural value. Therefore, we are pleased that we could choose from so many interesting proposals, often "following" the environment.
school among the oaks
The first place went to the studio of Piotr Bujnowski. The jury appreciated the project "for assumptions that note and take into account the natural and cultural context of the site." The distinctive feature of the project is the preservation of the existing stand of trees, mainly pedunculate oaks. The main body of the building is shaped so that it slopes with the terrain and is separated by green courtyards. As a result, the building establishes a relationship with its surroundings and is open to future changes. The competition court also paid attention to the functional aspects of the premise: the division of the school blocks into two levels and into groups of classes. At the heart of the premise is placed an agora in the form of wide stairs and balconies. Around them are rooms with the character of common spaces: library, dining room, checkrooms, common rooms, administration. Such a solution is intended to create a vibrant center of the school.

high quality public space
Also appreciated was the decision to bring the entrance square deep into the establishment and adjust it to the naturally sloping part of the site. This created a kind of amphitheater. It creates a high-quality public space, open to the greenery and the planned development with public functions in the adjacent area," reads the justification for awarding first place. The jury's attention was also drawn to the location of the kindergarten as separated by a green patio, but subtly connected to the school block.

Second place went to the team of Piotr Hardecki Architekt and Agnieszka Kacprzak. The project presents a compositionally coherent, spatially ordered and functionally effective, thoughtful arrangement of all elements of the school and kindergarten program, in an orderly, terraced, compact, mass.
Third place was awarded to two studios: MAMGUSTA Pracownia Projektowa and Grzegorz Czuchra Architekci from Cracow. Five honorable mentions were also awarded.
