MULTIFAMILY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

Tenement house at Rynek Wildecki in Poznan

proj.: Ultra Architects

[author's description fragment]

The building completes the northern frontage of the Wildecki Market in Poznan. The plot has never been developed. In a typical tenement house of the late 19th century, the social structure of the city was visible [...]. Today, society is a democratic structure, not emphasizing social and material divisions. That's why our tenement consists of only two parts: the first floor with commerce and, standing on it, a residential part with a uniform appearance. The building is connected to the surrounding tissue through a characteristic deflection of the wall, deflecting the last three floors. This deflection occurs at the same height as the eaves of the Church Under the Invocation of Mary Queen and the former parsonage building. [...] Due to the fact that the building is exposed to strong sunlight practically all day long, its color scheme is light. This is also intended to reduce the heating of the area. Only the window recesses and exterior loggia enclosures are dark, which limits the amount of sunlight reflecting and entering the apartments.

Multi-family residential buildings in Szamotuly

proj.: Vowie Studio Plus

[author's description]

The main idea of the project was to fit into the historic context of the surroundings. Due to the location, the designed buildings were shaped as an urban closure of the historic layout of the center of Szamotuly. The composition of two blocks with a foreground in the form of a park is an introduction to the historic center of the city. Through the dismemberment of the mass and the appropriate shaping of the roofs in a way that accentuates the gables, the designed buildings clearly relate to the historic neighborhood. Breaking up the mass into smaller segments visually reduces the designed building, thanks to which it harmoniously fits into the surrounding development. By maintaining the appropriate distance from the plot boundary and appropriate shaping of the front elevation, the building is a continuation of the western frontage of Ratuszowa Street.

Winiarska 40 in Poznań

design: CDF Architects

[excerpt from author's description]

The residential building on Winiarska Street in Poznań, located directly next to the park, is a distinctive, heavily sculpted, block. The irregular shapes of the last two floors shape an interesting chiaroscuro and give the building an individual character. The negative principle accompanying the project influenced the use of materials of varied texture and color. Facades of light-colored brick contrast with the characteristic texture of expanded metal in shades of brown. The designed loggias give the impression of hollow volumes, and the subdued color scheme of the materials harmonizes with the neighboring park greenery. The building is designed with 49 apartments with a variety of structures. With the number of floors, the average size of the apartments increases - from small studios on the first floor to four-room apartments with large terraces on the top floor. [...] The height of the building - categorized as medium-high - is a harmonious complement between the high and low buildings in the neighborhood.

Fama Jeżyce Stage I in Poznań

design: HRA Architects

[author's description]

Fama Jeżyce is one of the largest investments being built in the heart of Jeżyce. On an almost 8-hectare site formerly occupied by Wiepofama stands a housing development that enriches the changes that have been taking place here for several years. In addition to residential buildings, the space will be filled with new roads, squares, an attractive square and a promenade with a place for rest and recreation. When preparing the concept of the Fama Jeżyce estate, we focused particular attention on maintaining consistency with the existing character of the Jeżyce development. Individual stages will therefore have a quarter character. Each of them will be distinguished by individual elevation solutions. In the first stage it will be wood. There is also a hidden history in the contemporary architecture of the estate - the rounded corners of the buildings allude to the interwar period, and the concrete balconies give them an austere character.

Educational and Sports Complex in Baranowo

design: NEW ARCHITECTS

[excerpt from author's description]

The basic form is a simple block with a multi-sided roof, which naturally fits into the landscape of Polish small towns. The school was divided into four parts: an early childhood part with a multi-purpose hall, an elementary school with a main hall with a parade staircase, a feeding and administrative part, and a full-size sports hall with additional gym and fitness rooms (for students and residents). The main idea was to integrate the considerable size of the facility into the structure of an intimate village, where the urban assumptions are under conservation requirements. The object refers in its scale, variety of high roofs, compact body aesthetics (use of natural facade materials: wood, clinker brick) to the historical buildings of Baranów village. Modern, aesthetically pleasing, in the scale of local buildings, the object builds spatial order and identity of the place. A pro-ecological solution has been designed in the form of a "green atrium", which creates a microclimate in the school and is also a "green classroom".

Social Activation Center "TLENOWNIA", Czempiń

proj.: Pracownia Projektowa J. P. Woźny

[excerpt from author's description]

The once beautiful building of TLENOWNIA received permission from the conservator to demolish it due to its terrible condition. The buildings were in disrepair, but the local city authorities decided to preserve this historic building. [This led to the creation of the Oxygen Plant Social Activity Center with a net area of 1,500 square meters. The entire facility has been adapted to host a number of cultural and social functions that can operate independently. There is a library with a reading room, a multi-purpose room for 140 people, rooms for conducting workshops with children, young people and adults, and a two-story museum along with a memorial room for Antoni Jezierski with memorabilia donated by local residents to the owner of the Oxygen Plant. [...] We managed to save more than thirty percent of the original substance: primarily the outer walls. The rest is new construction: reinforced concrete or steel.

Garden yoga pavilion in Przezmierowo

proj.: Nice Young People

[excerpt from author's description]

Due to the location of the establishment in the existing garden, densely covered with tall trees, we had to locate the intended square footage in such a way as to avoid cutting down the trees while maintaining the intimacy of the terrace of the residential house. It was also important to take into account adequate sunlight in the existing house - the new buildings could not obstruct the windows of the living quarters. [...] The larger of the designed buildings is a yoga pavilion. The body consists of two parts: a higher one with a practice room (about 40 sq. m.) and a lower one with an entrance and a vestibule combining the function of a kitchenette and a checkroom, along with a toilet and a shower. A smaller, semi-detached structure houses a sauna and a small massage room, as well as a mezzanine accommodation. An outdoor shower is located between the two. [...] The facilities were built in a frame structure with steel reinforcement. To protect the roots of the trees, a ground screw foundation was used.

Shoot house, Włościejewki

proj.: P3 Pracownia Architektury, Sebastian Nowakowski

[excerpt from author's description]

Shoothouse buildings are a type of special shooting ranges that simulate real-life crisis scenarios. [...] In the beginning there was a plot of land with a surprising terrain, existing training buildings and a designated place for a facility intended to be different from all the ones so far. The escarpment always attracts the designer's attention because of its great compositional possibilities. In this case, it was one of the functional guidelines (independent access to two floors) that ultimately decided to inscribe the building into the existing earth embankment. The designed building was to complement the investor's existing training center both spatially and functionally. [...] The architects decided to go a step further in inscribing themselves in the landscape context, and so not only cut the building into the embankment, but also move the floors in relation to each other, creating a sense of mass following the terrain, while creating terraces. As it turned out, attractive new spaces for training purposes. Completing the massing is a dominant built-in staircase that provides easy access to the building's roof. On its axis, the main entrance to the building was highlighted with an arcade.

House in Poznań

proj.: Studio GAB, Katarzyna Osipowicz-Grabowska, Piotr Grabowski

[excerpt from author's description]

The first floor of the house concentrates the interpenetrating living areas, which, thanks to the openings to the east, south and west, will give the opportunity to enjoy natural lighting. Through the large windows located to the east, the morning sun from the lake will fill and awaken the entire house. [The heart of the house is the dining room organized around the fireplace, connected to the living room and intermingling with the kitchen. Finishing the house in natural materials gives the space the right warmth and high comfort of staying. [...] The building corresponds in its finishing materials to its surroundings. The combination of the brick facade in the first floor section together with the wooden facade on the first floor brings the house into the color scheme of the natural surroundings of the forest and the lake environment. The form of the house is a response to the context, the house turns completely towards the lake, conforming to the surroundings and allowing future residents to fully enjoy their surroundings.

Hill Top House, Borówiec

proj.: mode:rope

[author's description]

The project was created for a couple of amateurs of white snow, nature and collector cars. The owners wanted to combine a simple, traditional body of the house with as large a garage as possible, so that the whole house would blend in with the surrounding greenery as much as possible. We decided to cleverly combine all these wishes, designing a house that is surrounded on three sides by a green hill, hiding a sizable garage and an office. Complementing the "mountain atmosphere" is a small cottage standing on top of the resulting hill.

Remodeling of a single-family house, Leszno

proj.: studio de.materia

[excerpt from author's description]

The design task consisted in a thorough transformation of a one-story house from 2002, located in the suburbs, in the vicinity of compact single-family housing. It was a building with a sculpted form and a distinctive postmodern facade [...] The main objectives of the project were to expand with a fitness pavilion, significantly change the form and better integrate the house with the surrounding garden. The living room was entirely glazed and connected by an arcade to the new wing of the gym, so that from the side of the garden the mass gained horizontality and transparency. The interior opened up to greenery and light, and the spacious wooden platform became an arena for garden life. From the street, the building, combined with a full fence, appears as a composition of impenetrable planes of dark materials.

Broken house in Poznan

proj.: Ultra Architects

[excerpt from author's description]

The house stood on a plot with the shape of an elongated parallelogram. The development conditions specified the obligatory building line [...], the angle of inclination of the roof, and the maximum height of the ridge. For these reasons, a block with a very classic shape was designed, with a roof with two slopes, with the eastern elevation based on the building line indicated by the authority. In order to make such a standing and functionally fulfilling object fit into the plot, at the point of the ridge the body of the house was broken/bent. [...] Due to the fact that the plot slopes all the way down, the house has three stories. [...] The bonding element between all floors is a spatially designed staircase. [...] In summer it acts as a ventilation chimney, forcing the natural movement of air, and in winter it draws the heat generated by the sun into the house, along with the adjacent conservatory. The house's facade and roofs, as well as the fence, are finished with raw larch slats. In the interior, on the other hand, we left the structural structure concrete of the house unplastered.

Nowy Strzeszyn stage 2, Poznań

proj.: Insomia

[excerpt from author's description]

We tried, drawing on our experience, to create a premise that is a search for something between a house and an apartment - a synergy/combination of the advantages of both. Human scale correlated with actual human needs resulted in the design of rational, functional, compact and energy-efficient houses-apartments. The average size of a dwelling unit is 68 m². Repetition of solids gave way to differentiation. The urban planning of the estate is the result of avoiding conflicts with existing greenery - development between trees. Respect for what is found. [...] The designed buildings are a contemporary form of intensive urban development. [...] The project consists of 51 two-flat buildings with a residential function. The second phase of the project includes 27 residential units. Each unit has an independent entrance, a garage space and a garden.

Reconstruction of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Amphitheater in Koszalin

proj.: Autorska Pracownia Architektoniczna - Jacek Bułat

[excerpt from author's description]

In terms of land development, the reconstruction of the existing facilities of the amphitheater was implemented. Due to the numerous difficulties in adapting the existing stage facilities building to the current regulations and utility standards, only its structural elements related to the existing auditorium roof were left. [...] The starting point for the design was to leave the existing building structure and the canopy structure. In order to ensure proper separation of the audience and those performing on stage, the various functions were arranged on different floors. [...] As part of the amphitheater reconstruction, the stage surface was replaced and the stage was extended over the orchestra pit. The new stage canopy was designed in a form related in shape to the main amphitheater canopy. [...] as hanging on tendons (ropes) stretched between three arched ribs made of steel pipes. [...] Through the use of geometric elements and monochromatic colors, references to nature are not literal. In addition to the dominant colors in the halls, as well as in the entire building, efforts were made to use natural materials and colors, oak veneer and white and black colors. [...] The design of the preschool part of the facility, in contrast to the nursery part, is inspired by the city. Cottage-shaped buildings appear in the halls, also varying in color. The facade's articulation was shaped based on the basic principles of the composition of the facades of turn-of-the-century/19th/20th century tenement houses, transformed into the language of modern architecture. Spirit of the Palatium of Mieszko I and his wife Dobrawa on Ostrów Tumski in Poznań

architectural proj.: Pracownia Projektowa J.P. Woźny with team, design and realization of artistic glass: ARCHIGLASS Tomasz Urbanowicz and Konrad Urbanowicz with team.

[excerpt from author's description]

The genesis of the project dates back to 1999, when a team of archaeologists led by Prof. Hanna Kóčka-Krenz of Adam Mickiewicz University made an extraordinary discovery of the relics of a palatium directly next to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in summo. The concept of making the outlines of the object out of glass was born among archaeologists at the Genius Loci Archaeological Reserve in 2016. [...] The vertical sides of the wall were designed and made as unique art glass castings in a handmade form, referring to the imprint of the stones - reflecting the structure and character of the foundations and walls of the stone object more than a thousand years ago. The variable thickness (reaching up to 80 mm) gives the surface a velvety, furnace-like texture. [...] The entire glass composition consists of nearly 200 elements, with a total weight of about 13 tons. The illumination of the large-format glass object makes it possible to display the outline of the walls and historical content even after dark in a delicate and coherent manner with the entire surroundings of the historic Ostrow Tumski.

Reconstruction of the Lazarski Square in Poznań

proj.: Autorska Pracownia Architektoniczna - Jacek Bułat

[excerpt from author's description]

The main design goal was to create a space of high aesthetic value, as well as functional, pedestrian-friendly, which will activate the local community. The designed area was included in a residential zone, relying on the privileging of pedestrian and bicycle traffic, increasing the level of safety. [...] Kazimierz Nowak Square, located in the western part of the Market Square, lies on a slope with a total difference in level of about 4 meters. Here, the square's slab was designed to be raised so as to create a separate space where the recreational function dominates. [...] The whole area is finished with an amphitheater staircase for meetings and street art shows. The northern frontage of the Square is a pedestrian promenade where food gardens can be staged. [...] An additional recreational zone for relaxation, with plenty of greenery and seating areas, is located in the northern part of the square. A naturally shaped slope of greenery separates the pedestrian zone from the street and parking spaces. [...] The modern retail space, organized on a circular plan, provides easy access from all sides. The transparent canopy above it, with a visually lightweight steel structure and the double-layer ETFE plastic pneumatic membrane used, provides shade and protects from rain and snow, without changing the color of the products on display. [...] During the construction process, a mock-up was created with varying degrees of printing, which presented different degrees of shading for the space under the canopy. In the end, the printing of the film, which is to serve as sun protection, was assigned for the bottom layer.

The furniture was created as part of the Mood for wood international design workshop. [...] The group was to design a piece of furniture for performing breathing exercises, which would also allow observation of both the area around the oak tree and the tree itself. The young architects created a design consisting of three interpenetrating elements - forming a composition, which is the result of spatial, functional and natural analyses. Each of the designed elements, responds to the needs of different relaxation techniques used during dendrotherapy. The largest element is a recliner with a backrest facing the pond, from which one can admire the crowns of the trees and the light penetrating the leaves. The second element is a multifunctional piece of furniture that ties the entire composition together, while the last is a bench that allows physical contact with the bark of a nearby oak tree.

[...] The office consists of three floors, for which a common denominator was needed so that, despite the diverse geometry of the rooms, the entire space would be perceived as a coherent whole. Due to the historical nature of the building, the designers decided to leave the traditional elements of its interior: original woodwork, stucco, original wooden floors and stairs. Modernization of common spaces in Globis building

proj.: Insomia

[excerpt from author's description]

The dynamism of lines combined with natural materials creates a space where the user wants to stay. The interior of the building has gained a completely new expression. Warm colored lighting, fragments of walls and ceilings in wood cladding, upholstered furniture. The dynamics of the interior ceiling will take you further into the elevator lobby in a very clear way. The lobby has been significantly enlarged with the change of the vestibule. [...] In the entrance lobby we created a waiting zone, where guests in comfortable chairs, next to bookshelves can wait for an appointment. It is possible to modify the zone, which allows to conduct meetings and events in this place. The Globis Poznań reception desk in oval form is a distinctive element in an interior full of dynamic forms. The location of the reception desk is related to the proposed change in the layout of the rooms. Placing it in the side part of the entrance hall improves spatial legibility with particular emphasis on intuitiveness of finding the elevator lobby.
