On July 4 of this year, the competition committee appointed to carry out the competition for the position of director of the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw reached a decision. In a two-stage competition, Michal Duda was selected to replace Dr. Jerzy Ilkosz, who has held the position since 2000. Congratulations!
The CompetitionCommittee of eleven members selected the new director of the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw. The committee consisted of Daria Kieżun, Małgorzata Korżel-Kraśna, Zbigniew Maćków, Joanna Majczyk, Aleksandra Mańczyńska, Piotr Oszczanowski, Jerzy Pietraszek, Daria Dorota Pikulska, Bolesław Stelmach, Andrzej Szczerski and Jadwiga Urbanik.
In the second stage of the competition, each participant was given ten minutes to present their program for the implementation of activities and development of the museum. Beata Lejman and Michal Duda qualified for the second stage. After listening to the presentations, committee members asked questions of the candidates. By a ratio of nine votes to zero, Michal Duda won. Two committee members abstained from voting. The new director will serve for five years.
MichalDuda is an art historian, researcher and critic of architecture, as well as a curator and initiator of many projects related to the promotion of Polish architecture. He has worked at the Museum of Architecture since 2006. He started as an assistant in the Contemporary Architecture department, then was head of the Foreign Relations and Exhibition Organization department, and for the last three years served as Deputy Director for Programming.
The new director has also curated such exhibitions as: "Patchwork. Architecture of Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak", "Landscapes of leisure" and "Dagarama. Back to the Future." He is also the author of the book "Patchwork. The Architecture of Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak," for which he received the 2017 DAM Architectural Book Award.
