Residential house,
project: AtelierM
A house has been built in a suburban area of Buenos Aires, designed for people who wish to establish a closer connection with nature, far from the city center. The project by AtelierM aims to become a self-sufficient building, providing users with electricity, heating, water and even food.

Geometry as a starting point for architects
As with the human body, our positioning in relation to our surroundings affects how we move through it. Finding ourselves in front of an object is not the same as observing it from a different perspective.

Looking at it this way, it becomes clear that geometry guides the shaping of space. It not only defines the shapes and forms of buildings, but also influences the way these forms interact with the surrounding landscape. It determines the spatial arrangement in which every solid, line and angle has its place and meaning. In the case of this project, geometry is the starting point for creating a harmonious whole, in which the building not only exists in its surroundings, but also integrates with them.

A house that allows
establish closer contact with nature
The owners of the residence, after spending a long time in the hustle and bustle of the city, were looking for a new way of life. Their goal was to establish a connection with the environment and seek harmony between architecture and landscape. They wanted to create a space that would bring its inhabitants into close contact with the elements of nature, emphasizing the importance of nature in everyday life.

from concept to realization
- the process of shaping the circular form
The architectural search consisted of two stages. First, the solid was divided and bent in such a way as to obtain a circular shape, devoid of sharp edges. Then, through parameterization, they began to explore how the building's space interacts with the surrounding terrain, which allowed them to create a variety of interpenetrating spaces. The result is a center-plan residence that emerges naturally from the landscape, creating a coherent whole with the surroundings and not disturbing their harmony.

Concrete architecture combined with greenery:
harmony of austerity and nature
The house is built mainly of concrete, but greenery around and on the roof softens the austerity of the block, providing additional insulation from heat and cold. The building's brutalist forms are combined with organic shapes, and the rounded walls have varying heights. At the highest point is the entrance to the interior, above which a path rises, offering panoramic views.

The house has an area of 200 m² and consists of three bedrooms, a living room, a library nook, a kitchen and a bathroom. The interior design is highlighted by raw, exposed concrete, as well as wood, which helps shade the large glazing.

A building that in time
will become an inseparable part of nature
The project by AtelierM, unlike traditional structures that degrade over time, will gradually merge with nature, becoming an inseparable part of it. The lump will be increasingly overgrown with grass, greenery and other flora, making it an integral part of the surrounding landscape, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings and creating the impression of growing straight out of the ground.

A self-sufficient building in Buenos Aires,
supporting sustainable development
An important part of leaving the hustle and bustle of the city was the pursuit of an eco-friendly lifestyle, where instead of buying and throwing things away, they should be produced, used as needed, and then recycled. The house should in time turn into a self-sufficient oasis, generating its own electricity, heating, water and, most importantly, food.

home as a journey towards nature
and a new identity
The quote "There and Back Again" by J.R.R. Tolkien placed at the beginning of the project description symbolizes the journey both physically and emotionally of the residents in search of closeness to nature. It signifies a return to one's roots after years of living in the hustle and bustle of the city, and the discovery of a new ecological lifestyle.

The architects emphasize the importance of a change in perspective, in which a person's orientation in space affects his relationship with his surroundings. The project aims to become a place that not only promotes self-sufficiency, but also offers a new identity, integrating residents with nature and their surroundings.
