The Symbiotic House, designed by architects from BXBstudio Boguslaw Barnaś and Design Studio Pawel Jarosz, has won the PLGBC Green Building Awards 2019 for the best green project of 2019. What makes it stand out?
As the authors of the project write, the Symbiotic House redefines the modern lifestyle, which involves a return to the traditional principles of symbiosis with nature while maintaining comfort and the latest technological advances. It is a house that rebuilds man's relationship with his surroundings, involving him in a cycle with the environment.

Combining nature and tradition, the Symbiotic House is characterized by a simple structure, ergonomic functional layout and active integration of residents with the natural environment, made possible by such elements as a greenhouse, barn and aquarium, among others.

A bathing aquarium allows you to observe flora and fauna from inside the house, allows swimming without the use of chemicals or energy inputs, allows you to optimize and integrate plant systems and maintain a favorable microclimate in the house and greenhouse.
The greenhouse is an extension of the daytime part of the house, allowing year-round cultivation of plants, oxygen production and optimization of the ventilation system. What's more, constructed with industrial systems, it allows you to regulate the opening of the glazing in the summer seasons and during the rainy season.

The isolated space of the house is an autonomous poultry house with a run, perches and boxes for laying hens. The poultry house is equipped with an automatic cleaning system - the floor, which is set on rollers, makes one turn per day, and the dirt accumulated on the belt under the poultry house is soaked and cleaned with scrapers and brushes. What's more, the hen run is automatically sprinkled with rainwater collected in a tank. The dirt removed in this way is discharged into another tank and used to fertilize plants in the garden.
Residents learn about the eggs laid through a mobile app.

Above the chicken coop was located a traditional barn - a covered space that can be used as a place to collect hay from the mowed flower meadow, a playroom for children or as an additional utility space.
The house is also equipped with a symbiotic fireplace - a modern battery of energy extracted from renewable resources, which collects and stores energy while emitting heat. According to the authors of the project, inspired by the traditional form of a stove with a stove and a bake oven, it divides the space of the house into a living room zone overlooking the water (sofa culture) and a kitchen and dining room zone overlooking the greenhouses (table culture).

In addition to the design of the house, the architects also thought through the composition of the symbiotic plot, which included a flower meadow located on the north side of the house, a wooden deck over the meadow and a recreational space with a wooden terrace, lawn and a sandy beach adjacent to the water body.

The designers envisioned the Symbiotic House in the city to create a unique microclimate, while in the countryside - to fit into the existing landscape. Whole complexes of symbiotic houses can create Symbiotic Neighborhoods and Neighborhoods with common spaces, thus creating a completely new quality of urban space.
