Ewelina Lekka - S'ploty furniture for long-term rental

28 of April '20

The S'ploty furniture set is a master's thesis project by Ewelina Lekka, made at the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the supervision of Dr. Anna Szwai.

Projekt S'ploty przeciwstawia się niepohamowanej konsumpcji i nadprodukcji nieprzetwarzalnych odpadów, w tym przede wszystkim miękkiej pianki poliuretanowej używanej do produkcji siedziskach tapicerowanych. One of the author's main challenges in creating the furniture was to limit the use of artificial veneers. The design is based on natural, Polish materials that pose no threat to the environment.

Coliving and furniture for rent

S'plots are also designed for a service that offers long-term furniture rental in a subscription model. This is a good solution for young people with nomadic lifestyles and frequent relocation. Moving affects the number of items owned. A new trend is the emergence of coliving spaces. These are large, shared apartments in which a small bedroom and a bathroom are rented. Other rooms such as the kitchen, living room and workspace are shared with other residents. Such spaces are becoming increasingly popular in large cities, where young people don't want or can't afford to rent individually. Starting life in a new place, they are open to making new friends.
The S'ploty furniture set is created with shared spaces or modular apartments in mind, where the products will encourage casual, informal meetings and conversations.
