description

On January 15, 2025, the opening of a post-competition exhibition of architectural projects by male and female students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Krakow University of Technology took place at Tarnów's Multimedia Art Center at 25 Walowa Street. The event was a summary of the sixth stage of the cooperation between the Public Architecture Team A-2 of the Faculty of Architecture of the Krakow University of Technology and the Tarnów City Hall, initiated in 2014.

The competition provided an opportunity to reflect on the concept of expansion and reconstruction of an existing tenement house in Tarnów at Rynek 6. The aim of the project was to transform a fragment of the city into a "living" urban space using a new generation building. The competition task included not only creating an architectural proposal, but also a functional one.

The male and female students faced the ambitious challenge of designing a public building in the inner city. Work on the projects began in October 2024, when the first-year and second-year students, participating in classes organized by the A-2 WA PK Public Architecture Team, had a site visit. At that time, they also had the opportunity to meet with the mayor of Tarnów, Jakub Kwaśny, who introduced them to the issues of the site and the design context.

The jury consisted of:

  • Dr. Wieslaw Michalek - chairman,
  • Jacek Adamczyk (Director of the Dialogue Center - Idea Tarnów) - secretary,
  • Dr. Bartosz Dendura (WA PK),
  • Barbara Knapik (Chairwoman of the Municipal Urban Planning and Architectural Commission),
  • Michal Sitek (Director of the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning),
  • Paulina Hebda (Acting Head of the Provincial Office for Historic Preservation in Krakow, Delegation in Tarnow),
  • Michał Rączka

Second prize went to Aleksandra Paradysz (work: "tarNOVA. Conference and event center"). Third prize went to Julia Sordyl (work: "FAB-LAB") and Sylwia Nykaza (work: "Idea Space").

Honorable mentions were awarded to: Miłosz Kozłecki, Ewelina Szopa and Alicja Mendel, and honorable mentions: Julia Cielecka and Marta Lorek.

The jury decided not to award the first prize.

Supervisors of the student works were Dr. Anna Porębska, Dr. Ewelina Panasiuk and Dr.Marta Łukasik under the direction of Dr. Bartosz Dendura.

President of the City of Tarnów Jakub Kwaśny invites you to the exhibition, which can be viewed until January 30, 2025.
