A park will be built at the Gdynia marina. The competition was won by the B-C Architects studio.

01 of October '24

Studio B-C Architekci from Gdansk won the competition for the park planned for the waterfront area in Downtown Gdynia: between the marina and the Council of Europe Park. - Our main idea was to organize the area and recreate the view from the adjacent Linden Avenue to the marina, the designers say.

The new park will be built in downtown Gdynia - between the marina and the Council of Europe Park. The project was selected by representatives of the city and the investor Affiliate Project in a competition. The winner was the studio B-C Architekcifrom Gdansk, the same one that earlier won the competition for the new development that Affiliate Project is planning next door: at Gdynia's marina and Kosciuszko Square.

Downtown Gdynia. Park by the marina

The area covered by the competition for the park is today a poor showcase of the so-called Marine Downtown Gdynia: there is a parking lot and seasonal food stalls. Meanwhile, the local zoning plan envisages a park in this place, in a way connecting the Council of Europe Park with the marina area.

The winning concept calls for new plantings, alleys, a bike path and a fountain. The designers divided the whole into three zones: walking, picnic and relaxation. The architects, following the guidelines of the local plan, preserved the scenic axis running through the Council of Europe Park to the marina basin.

Our main idea was to organize the area and restore the view from the adjacent Linden Avenue to the marina, says architect Malgorzata Bedra of the B-CA studio. - In the central point of the park a fountain will be created, we have also planned a place for an open-air cinema. When selecting the plantings, we took care of biodiversity and included native species. New and preserved trees in summer will provide shade for those strolling and relaxing in the park space. We also did not forget about evergreen species - so coveted when in late autumn most plants lose their leaves and colors.

The architect adds that the project is being coordinated with the city's conservator, as the area lies in a conservation zone, besides which Gdynia is trying to get the early-modern Downtown Gdynia listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

New development near the marina and Kosciuszko Square

Downtown Gdynia has been filling up with new developments in recent years. The park is planned at the back of the Waterhall development, which Affiliate Project will build near Gdynia's marina and Kosciuszko Square. It will include a five-star hotel with 175 class rooms, as well as more than 160 apartments. This is one of the developments that make up Gdynia's so-called Maritime Downtown, a district located on the most attractive waterfront areas of the city center.
