Sad news from Wrocław. On Thursday, July 6 this year, Dr. Tomasz Głowacki, architect, founder of the studio PAG, long-time academic teacher at the Faculty of Architecture of Wrocław University of Technology, architecture critic, winner of awards and prizes in many architectural competitions, known, among other things, for his realization of unusual single-family houses, nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award 2019, passed away after a serious illness.
Tomasz Głowacki, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Wrocław University of Technology (1994), has been running an independent architectural practice since 2005 as part of the Studio of Architecture Głowacki PAG. He was known for the realization of single-family houses, such as Dom+ (Galowice 2005), Broken Barn (Wrocław 2006), House with a Jam (2018), House in the Glade (2020), and the series of Headed Houses, among others.
He was also the author of significant public buildings in Wrocław, including the new building of the Academy of Fine Arts on Traugutta Street (First Prize in the competition for the expansion of the Academy of Fine Arts in 2007), and the Swoja Olimpia shopping center (2019).
Designed by the PAG studio in cooperation with arch_it, the „Atmosphere” multi-family development complex on Wrocław's New Żerniki — WUWA 2 estate has been nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award 2019.
As we read on the website of the PAG studio — the architectural sketches of Tomasz Glowacki were published in the album „The Hand of the Architect. Three hundred and seventy-eight signed drawings by some of the greatest contemporary architects” alongside sketches by Tadao Ando, Norman Foster or Zaha Hadid.
Tomasz Glowacki had been battling severe cancer since the spring of 2022.
