art and culture of space
The numbers devoted to buildings related to art and culture could be endless. There is happening in this subject, oh my! Museums, galleries, cultural centers, theaters, opera houses, philharmonic halls, art installations in public spaces - these are some of the most interesting objects and most visible in the space of cities. One can even risk saying that objects with a cultural function are a kind of business cards of cities. There will be plenty of examples to confirm this thesis. All the more saddening is the fact that the museum of the Grazyna Kulczyk collection, which we present in this issue, as a result of bad cultural policy lands in...Switzerland instead of Poznan (the first planned location of the object, the design of which was supposed to be prepared by Tadao Andō) or Warsaw (the second point on the map, which was considered by the founder). Unfortunately, the world-famous collector didn't get along with the authorities of those cities, and it was much easier for her to set her collection in Swiss realities. One can only sigh sadly that such an opportunity was missed. But is it the first time? The Lodz casus and the tussle with Gehry only confirm the thesis that we do not treat culture in Poland as an element of economic development. Besides, it is not at all necessary to reach for the front pages of the newspapers, it is enough to trace the percentage in the budget of municipalities allocated to cultural activities and we will have a clear picture of the direction in which we are heading. The economy in Poland is acculturated, it does not use cultural resources effectively enough to make changes on a structural level.
And it hasn't been known since yesterday that no socio-economic change has a chance to happen without cultural overwork. Just what is known....
