The classic model of a tilt-and-turn window, up to a height of 1.5 meters, is becoming a thing of the past - they are increasingly seen in the background. Glazing is growing in sight - its area and role is increasing. This is an excellent way to blur the boundary between inside and outside, to create an "unenclosed space" offering additional space for relaxation.
Modern architecture does not limit the living space within the four walls of the house, but opens it to the beauty of the surroundings, offering close contact with nature and more light in the interiors. A living room with an exit to a veranda, terrace or garden is an ideal duo - sliding glass doors are their perfect complement.
Uncluttered space
With large-scale glass structures, the living room gains ecological illumination, and the sun's rays bring out all the beauty of its arrangement, subtly emphasized by the play of chiaroscuro, changing depending on the time of day. On warm days, open sliding doors automatically enlarge the living room - and we become richer with additional space for relaxation, family meals or social gatherings. The veranda is happy to be "inhabited" by airy mosquito nets, rocking chairs, swings and elegant furniture, which on sunny days will provide us with comfortable outdoor relaxation. If necessary, with a flick of the wrist, you can change the arrangement, close the door and create a personal, intimate comfort zone with a soothing view of the beauty of the nearby landscape.
Still a window or already a door?
Large-scale glazing, naturally illuminated interiors and the beauty of a simple, minimalist form are the determinants of modern architectural trends.
It is increasingly rare to install traditional windows with a maximum height of 1.5 meters. Large glazing makes the body of the house light and impressive, and its facade modern - hence the growing popularity of this trend. Already more than 50% of glazing in newly built single-family houses is a combination of non-opening windows (FIX) and sliding structures - and their height is increasing to 2.5 m, says Mariusz Kudas, Customer Advisor at OknoPlus.
Glass walls, glass houses
The rapid development of technology has meant that large-format window glazing not only meets the strictest construction requirements, but also allows constructions of almost any size, reaching up to a dozen square meters. Large glazing becomes even monumental - the HST SwissForm system allows you to achieve a door structure of up to 6 meters in width and up to 2.5 meters in height!
However, non-standard solutions are becoming more common in the latest architectural projects: huge glazing, panoramic windows stretching across the entire width of the building, glass walls from the first floor to the roof. The implementation of such projects requires the use of building materials with special properties. Here aluminum joinery will be ideal - the statics of the metal and its low dead weight, compared to PVC, allow the creation of huge glazed structures. The use of aluminum profiles makes it possible to achieve glazing of impressive size and realize the boldest architectural projects, in which glass is the dominant design feature.
Freedom of arrangement, freedom of choice
When building a house, we want it to be unique and exceptional - and these are the solutions we offer our customers," assures Mariusz Kudas. - The product we create can be "personalized" and tailored to individual expectations and preferences - starting with the size of the glazing and stunning visual effect, and ending with functionality, energy efficiency and safety issues. We can choose the size of the sashes, their number, the variant of the threshold, the hardware ensuring safety and comfort of use, as well as the color of the woodwork and the model of finishing: handles or catches," adds the OknoPlus expert.
The freedom to choose the number of sashes, their type and rich colors allow you to freely implement your ideas and refine the arrangement. What's more, by choosing a bi-color (a different profile color on the outside and inside of the building), we can perfectly match them to both the interior design and the style of the building facade. Here the limit actually becomes our imagination!
Opening up to modern trends, we have expanded our offer with another glazed sliding door - Morlite Vision. Intuitive handle operation, easy closing, excellent thermal insulation parameters, protection against wind and rain, optimal acoustic insulation combined with an elegant and discreet design are the undoubted advantages of this solution, recommends an expert from OknoPlus.
But that's not all. The Priva-lite by Saint-Gobain glazing package provides an intelligent system for changing an opaque surface into a translucent one and vice versa at the touch of a button. Alternatively, the glazing can be EGLAS by Saint-Gobain - active heating glass, providing indoor thermal comfort, eliminating drafts and the feeling of cold. A major novelty is the innovative opening and closing mechanism, which works differently than in previously known sliding structures. After opening, the movable sash, as in the traditional PSK design, immediately moves away to a distance of 8 mm from the frame, and then moves smoothly as in the HST design.
The solution was met with great interest and recognition - the modern combination was honored with the award "INNOVATION OF THE YEAR 2019 - Exhibition Visitors' Choice" during the Warsaw Home/Warsaw Build Fair.
Large-scale glazing, glass walls and sliding doors are not just a temporary trend in architecture or a designer's bold vision. Their use makes the house acquire an individual character, become more visually interesting and impressive. At the same time, glazing gives the body of the building lightness and delicacy, bringing a touch of luxury to our private kingdom.
