The bathroom is increasingly becoming a place of well-being, regeneration and relaxation - an alternative space to the hustle and bustle of daily life and stressful situations. Fast-paced lifestyles call for a design language that is minimalist and durable, while relying on natural materials with tactile surfaces. One example is the new Qatego bathroom series, designed for Duravit by Studio F. A. Porsche.
Wood, ceramics and natural stone combine to create a harmonious bathroom design that provides a unique atmosphere. The designers see the sinks and furniture as a combination of design and functionality.

For Qatego, we took into account people's requirements for an intimate bathroom environment. Therefore, it was important for us to give the objects a strong emotional value that goes beyond mere functionality," said Henning Rieseler, design director at Studio F. A. Porsche, describing the creative process.
The rounded form of the sanitary products stands out against the linear and minimalist shape of the cabinets. In the creative process, the designers referred to archetypes.
As a material, ceramics tend to have softer forms due to the processing and firing process, while we see furniture more as a box shape, the design studio said.

Raw geometry: furniture
The furniture in the Qatego collection is characterized by a linear design and comes in many variants: a console-type under-sink cabinet with a drawer and a washbasin standing on top of it, or a cabinet that seamlessly connects to a bonded washbasin. In terms of functionality, the storage space is a play of open and closed surfaces, which characterizes all elements of the series, including tall cabinets, mirrors and mirrored cabinets with a storage shelf. Open shelves with optional lighting break the strict geometric form of the furniture and bring a homey, cozy atmosphere to the bathroom. They are ideal for a striking display of favorite items such as perfume bottles, bowls and vases.

Playing with colors and materials
The Qatego bathroom range furniture, made from PEFC-certified eco-friendly wood, is available in eight colors, ranging from High Gloss White to natural hues such as Taupe Mat and Basalt Mat, as well as strong shades such as Graphite Mat. In addition, wood shades such as Black Oak, Terra Oak and Natural Oak round out Qatego's spectrum of nature-inspired colors. They can also be combined with "solid" colors, and the two-color variant is a special design feature. Natural stone, used for the first time by Duravit, is equally unique: the Studio F. A. Porsche design combines ceramic countertop washbasins with stone countertops made of Cararian marble, travertine and Pietra Lavica, another reference to nature. Here, too, you can choose from a range of options: a stone console with a width of 1000 or 1400 mm can be attached directly to the wall, and a countertop washbasin can be placed directly on it. The console's brackets made of anthracite-colored metal also serve as towel holders. Alternatively, a 1000 mm wide stone countertop can be placed on a wooden console, creating a harmonious symbiosis of two materials and textures. Another design highlight is the rounded edges and recesses in the high-quality stone countertops on the left or right side of the countertop washbasin, offering space for accessories such as a hairbrush or soap dispenser. Natural stone is a unique element that expresses itself through a variety of intermingling colors and veining. Impregnation of the stone surface makes it easy to clean.

Gently rounded: sanitary products
The design of the sanitary elements combines clear geometry with soft, delicate forms. According to the design studio, the inspiration for the design came from water-smoothed pebbles, which are pleasant to the touch.
At this point, we took a path that is more unusual for Studio F. A. Porsche: the idea was to create something natural, almost soft, and thus also to reinterpret the functional aspect of the design," explained Henning Rieseler.

The rectangular washbasins are available in four variants: as a wall-mounted model and as a countertop washbasin with a faucet shelf that provides adequate storage space. They are joined by a partially recessed washbasin and a built-in washbasin with characteristically curved sides, which is available with a matching, seamlessly integrated undermount cabinet. A design highlight of the series is the 600 × 400 mm countertop washbasin, which is available with heavily curved sides in addition to the standard version.
The freestanding bathtub is consistent with the countertop washbasin and is undoubtedly an eye-catching element in the bathroom space. It is made of DuroCast Plus cast mineral with a velvety surface. Like the built-in acrylic bathtub, the ergonomically shaped lumbar support supports the lower back and guarantees pleasant seating comfort. A toilet bowl and bidet, which seamlessly blend into the overall design concept, complete the sanitary equipment. Pre-installed hinges allow for quick and easy installation of the toilet seat.
All ceramic elements are optionally available with HygieneGlaze antimicrobial ceramic glaze, which provides an unprecedented standard of hygiene. After just six hours, about 90% of bacteria (e.g. coliforms) are eliminated, and approx. 99.9% eliminated after 24 hours. The Wave faucet series designed by Duravit is the perfect complement to the sanitary elements and is available in five different finishes.
