People's Park in Lublin in a new version. Work is nearing completion

23 of October '20

People's Park in Lublin is a city park with an area of 23 hectares. It was created after World War II on land on the Bystrzyca River. It is a place of recreation for Lubliners where cultural events, concerts and sports events are also held. However, due to its location close to the river, the park has struggled with high groundwater levels since the 1980s. Now the city is restoring the area to its former prominence.

Thenatural revitalization, preceded by public consultations, was designed to highlight the park's unique importance in the region's ecological stucture. It is located near the Bystrzyca River, which is the main ecological corridor in the area. Therefore, the project included both small-scale infrastructure for people, as well as for animals and insects living in the park. Installed nesting boxes for various bird species, as well as boxes for insects and bats, will help take care of biodiversity in the park.

first acceptance

In October, the first technical tests and acceptance of the equipment installed in the park took place. The fountain, which is the heart of the water garden, passed a positive test. Its bottom is filled with a blue mosaic with representations of fish living in the Bystrzyca River. The area around the fonatnna is shaped in the form of a natural amphitheater.
A visit by representatives of the City Hall to the site was also held recently. Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin, commented on the work on the park as follows:

I am convinced that the People's Park after revitalization will once again become one of the most beautiful green places in Lublin. We are already at the end of the most serious works, the final touches remain in the area of arranging greenery and small architecture. I am glad that soon residents will see the effects of many months of work in this largest park in Lublin

alleys and tracks

Currently, work is still underway on the construction of the main av enue of representative character, with a row of lanterns. The construction of all other alleys, whose length totals about 8 km, has already been completed. They will satisfy the needs of different groups of wheel users, as they are all asphalted. They will also be adapted to the needs of disabled wheelchair users. The park also has natural tracks for cyclists of varying levels. These were already made last year, so as to give them adequate time to gain stability. A passing path and green hedge mazes are also ready. Currently, the installation of an acoustic path, granite furniture is underway, which will not only make the park more attractive, but also a place for exercise and evolution.

works at completion

Work has also been completed on most of the park's infrastructure facilities: the main stairs on the side of Piłsudskiego Street and the ramps for wheelchairs, toilets and the fountain maintenance building. Dog runs have been fenced in (only small greenery plantings remain), playground equipment, safe surfaces for exercise, outdoor gyms and most small architecture have been installed. The final stage of technical work will be the installation of monitoring.

facing the river

Many of the new facilities in the park take advantage of its proximity to the river. The already completed pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Bystrzyca River is also an attractive feature of the park. The construction of the descents to the river and the canoe marina has also been completed. A drainage system has been built under the entire Park, which proved its worth during the recent heavy rainfall. Water from the park area is drained through drains into a drainage ditch, from where it is directed to a pumping station and the river.

In the greenery area, it remains to perform the planting of the last shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses, as well as the last dozen or so trees. The entire project should be completed by November 30, 2020. The natural revitalization of the People's Park began in 2019. The total value of the project is about PLN 44 million with European funding of PLN 20.5 million (the funds come from the Regional Operational Program of the Lublin Voivodeship under the Integrated Territorial Investments).
