The Polish Pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai opened its doors today. What can the facility surprise visitors with? Attention is drawn to the kinetic sculpture surrounding the building, which depicts migrating birds and is a metaphor for mobility. The pavilion invites visitors to relax in the shade of the spreading canopy, contemplate and feast together. Meanwhile, the interior is a journey through Polish nature, culture and technology. The author of the Polish Pavilion at EXPO Dubai and the exhibition is the WXCA studio and Bellprat Partner from Switzerland.
ThePolish Pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai leads a multithreaded story about Polish innovation inspired by nature and Poland's importance in the world. Its concept is in line with both the main motto of the exhibition - "connecting minds, we create the future", and the slogans of the sector in which the Polish Pavilion is located - "mobility" and the pavilion itself - "Poland. Creativity inspired by nature."

symbols that connect
The simultaneous design of both the architecture and the exhibition by Warsaw-based studio WXCA and Swiss studio Bellprat Partner, made it possible to create a coherent, immersive whole, a unique space that interpenetrates and invites visitors to participate in a sequence of events that make up a multidimensional experience of close-to-nature, conscious, sustainable living in Poland.

The pavilion itself becomes an important element of the exhibition, equating Polish hospitality respect for the environment and collective wisdom. The cooperation between WXCA and Bellprat Partner in developing the concept of the pavilion and the tour path resulted in finding such distinctive features of our country that will sink into the memory and hearts of visitors.
Our concept for the Polish pavilion consciously fits into the leading slogan of the future exhibition. Referring to the symbolism of migrating birds, we want to show the dynamics of development of the modern world, cultural exchange, trade, social migration," says Marta Sekulska-Wronska co-author of the project, partner at WXCA.

A leisurelywander through the spaces of the building leads to a point where visitors will be able to connect all the discovered elements of the story of our country and understand how necessary it is to draw sensibly from nature to wisely create the modern world and how important a role Poles play in this.
We did not design the building. We were creating a very multilayered phenomenon and experience," explains Michal Czerwinski, co-author of the project with WXCA.
A multidimensional experience
Thekinetic sculpture surrounding the building, the movement, the play of light, the gusts of air and the accompanying rustling, create an opportunity to contemplate natural phenomena and reflect on the coexistence of man and nature. The installation brings to mind a flock of birds or sails, leaves flapping in the wind, which, according to the authors, symbolize mobility, integration and collective intelligence.
The construction of the pavilion itself is an example of optimal use of very different resources. The dynamic mass, consisting of upwardly expanding modular structures, creates an open space and invites visitors to linger in the shade of the expansive canopy. The dominant finishing material of the building is wood.

By proposing this form of the pavilion and the materials used in it, we want to encourage reflection on the processing of nature, the relationship between the natural and built environments and the role of man in shaping them," adds Michal Czerwinski.
Designing the Polish Pavilion at the Dubai EXPO is for architects what a performance at the Olympics crowned with a podium and the Dabrowski Mazurka is for athletes," Marta Sękulska-Wrońska concludes.
