Revitalization of the historic Korbach town hall in the context of urban mining
Korbach's historic city center has undergone a comprehensive revitalization, including the city hall dating back to 1377. The project, led by agn Niederberghaus & Partner GmbH, was a finalist for the 2023 German Sustainability Award for Architecture and received the exemplary building award in Hesse. The revitalization of Korbach City Hall set new standards in sustainable construction, using recycled materials and RHEINZINK titanium-zinc. RHEINZINK prePATINA ECO ZINC sheet, used on the roof with standing seam angle technology, provided durability and aesthetics. About 62% of the demolition material was reused, minimizing costs and environmental impact. The architects systematically recorded and analyzed materials, ensuring optimal use of resources. The new city hall harmoniously blends historic and modern elements, and the use of RHEINZINK titanium-zinc on the roof gives it a unique character, making it an example of sustainable architecture.
