Dominika Długosz will go down in history as the shortest-serving Malopolska Regional Monument Conservator. Appointed to the post on Wednesday, January 19 this year, she stepped down the next day.
one-day tenure
On January 18, 2022, General Conservator of Monuments Jaroslaw Selin sent a request to Malopolska Voivode Lukasz Kmita to appoint Dominika Długosz as Malopolska Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments. On January 19, 2022, the Małopolska Voivode appointed the candidate to the post, effective January 20, 2022.
Dominika Długosz, according to a press release published by the Malopolska Voivodship Office in Krakow, was said to have resigned from her post for personal reasons, having held the position for just one day. What was supposed to be the reason for the resignation? Unofficially, the MWKZ's activity on social media is pointed to. "Controversial" content included anti-clericalism, support for the Committee for Defense of Democracy, or sharing a text with the title "The word homeland stinks of murder." The Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments has not published a statement on the matter.
Krakow to continue without a conservator?
On September 10, 2021, Monika Bogdanowska was dismissed from her post. At the time, Dominika Dlugosz was performing the duties of the MWKZ until a new Malopolska conservator was selected in a competition. The competition, announced as recently as last September, was unresolved. Dominika Długosz was appointed based on a proposal by the General Conservator of Monuments.
The Małopolska voivode appointed Joanna Florkiewicz-Kamieniarczyk, former director of the Department for the Revitalization of Krakow Monuments and National Heritage of the Małopolska Voivodship Office, as acting MWKZ. She will combine both functions until a new conservator is appointed.
