abstract
The subject of the diploma thesis is an urbanistic-architectonic project of a public utility building and revitalization of the area of the former coal mine "KWK Wieczorek" in Katowice. The project envisages the transformation of the area of the closed coal mine and assumes the creation of a gaming and technology center integrated with a train stop. The project is also an attempt to respond to the challenges facing today's architecture. The increasing number of heavy industry closures and the shift away from an economy based on heavy industry raises questions about how to deal with abandoned factory, mine and plant buildings and surrounding areas. Cities today very often have huge areas of defunct industrial plants, investing in and transforming these areas can bring great benefits and breathe new life into forgotten places.
