Stasis is a medical equipment used to save lives. An effective, well-worn bandage completely cuts off the blood supply to an injured limb, significantly reducing the risk of death on the battlefield. The need for them has been intensely reported by Ukrainians fighting the Russian aggressor.
The offensive of low-quality stasis 3D printed and shipped to Ukraine, resulted in skepticism among medics and military officials about the use of 3D printing. So we decided to delve into the manufacturing process and mechanics of certified stasis to create our own proposal.
Stasis saves lives, so we were guided by a sense of responsibility. We subjected the design to in-depth review by paramedics, military personnel, field medics and material science experts. After rigorous laboratory tests, we sent the first batch to the front - we were answered by requests for more. To date, we have donated more than 1,700 of them, and we know of 3 lives saved thanks to our project.
We are very surprised, because the project was not done for show or applause. We thought of it as real design, design in response to a crisis. We wanted to make something that would work and help - in a way, change the world for the better. That's the greatest thing about the work of a designer," say the authors.
