An unfriendly and noisy square separated by Katowicka, Chorzowska, Jana Matejki and Karola Miarki Streets conceals an untapped potential for an urban space that could become a showpiece of the city. The designed facility is located at the entrance to the city, surrounded by transit roads with a high level of inconvenience.
The project aims to create a facility that is a point of economic activation in the region by promoting the craft products of local entrepreneurs. A natural element of the urban fabric with the aforementioned function is a craftsmen's tenement, containing commercial, manufacturing and residential functions. The project's typology refers to this type of development while adapting it to contemporary architectural standards and the context of the place.
The eclectic and Art Nouveau elevations of the townhouses, witnesses of the city's history, despite numerous problems, make Bytom a unique city both regionally and nationally. Noble materials such as brick and coarse-grained plaster characterize much of the city's buildings. The designed building blends into the existing fabric by using the aforementioned materials as the main means of expression, while being characterized by a simple and synthetic form. The discipline in shaping the facade is reflected in the mathematical and orderly plan.
