Historic Ignacy Mine in Rybnik
Author:
Blank Architects and ABC Pracownia Projektowa Bożena Nosiła
Justification of the jury:
The award was given for creating new values available to the public in the surroundings and buildings of the historic Ignacy Mine, the oldest in the Rybnik area. A new center of the Niewiadom district has been created. The investment is part of a revitalization process that has been underway since 2014. New public services, recreational functions and, above all, a theme park referring to the city's history have been introduced. The institution popularizes and disseminates the heritage of industrial culture. The Competition Jury appreciated the transformation of the site in the spirit of local traditions, preservation of identity and successive restoration of the degraded neighborhood
post-industrial area in an original and qualitative way, providing appropriate public space for all age groups.
