abstract
The master's thesis in the theoretical part concerns the analysis of the issue of availability of high-quality green areas in modern cities, as well as related issues of communication and the presence of urban forests. The purpose of the considerations is to come up with conclusions and implement them in the form of spatial planning and architectural solutions on a concrete example.
The design part presents the concept of a forest park in Katowice Muchowiec as an element of the city's green infrastructure. The thesis presented assumes an integral approach, enabling the combination of solutions that can systemically affect changes in the scope of the analyzed problem. This primarily refers to the creation of a network of connections (communication and green), as well as the overall unification of space to improve conditions related to transportation, accessibility, the course of green corridors and the unification of the entire space. The methodology of the study is based on the analysis of literature, scientific articles and a case study. The study focuses on the Muchowiec district of Katowice, for which a number of urban, transportation, natural or functional analyses were carried out. Based on their conclusions and guidelines, a design concept was proposed, taking into account the idea of sustainable transportation and blue-green infrastructure solutions.
The project involves the creation of a forest-park complex that constitutes a nodal point for the city's natural system, while increasing its accessibility by improving the bicycle transportation system in the south of Katowice. The main objectives of the project are to increase the social function of the forest, to introduce new functions, to make it accessible and to improve the connectivity of the entire project area.
