RE: BRRRDA HOUSE - a single-family house designed by Marcin Tomaszewski of the REFORM Architects studio, not only by its name, but also by its shape, recalls the iconic Brda wooden summer houses known from the communist era. The steep, gabled roofs and triangular elevations of the tent-like or shack-like blocks the architect, in a modern edition, introduced into the Masurian landscape.
A contemporary version of the Brda cottage
I start my work on projects with observations. This was also the case this time. I knew the needs of the clients, being already on site, I basically knew what the house would look like. Very often inspiration comes to me like an impulse. Summer rain, the beauty of Masuria, and immediately in my head the idea of creating a contemporary version of the Brda cottage was born. In this version of the project, it's all the way in a triple version," says Marcin Tomaszewski of the REFORM Architekt studio in Lodz.

Located by the lake, the house with a total area of about 340 square meters, according to the investors' assumption, although it is to be year-round and functional, it was to be associated primarily with relaxation and vacation. Inspiration from holiday cottages popular in the communist era helped to create an original and modern form of the house consisting of three triangular-shaped blocks placed on a cuboid. Covered with steep pitched roofs, the parts were connected by a connector, which inside serves as a corridor, and outside is covered with a mirror-like material reflecting the surrounding landscape.

On the street side, the first floor is more built-up, thus providing privacy for residents, while on the other side, thanks to large glazing, it opens up to a picturesque view of the Masurian landscapes.
The blocks, which differ in size, although connected to each other, have different functions - separate living areas for the parents, for the son and for guests. Relaxation is also to be fostered by a relaxation area planned inside, housing, among other things, a yoga room and a sauna.

The purpose of the first floor of each part of the house is also differentiated - one of them houses a garage, the middle one - a spacious living area with a kitchen and, in the last one, a covered terrace. The upper floor above the terrace is supported by a column in a V-shaped triangle motif that is repeated.

The lump is to be entirely covered with narrow ceramic elements, somewhat resembling wooden planks, and contrasting glossy black aluminum composite panels. The roof, in turn, will be made of wood and steel construction. The start of construction of the house is scheduled for this year's vacations.
