So what now?
Edited by: Miastopracownia
"We dedicate this issue to the challenges of the present tense. We wanted to check how the ideas we already know are implemented in practice. Thus, a series of articles about ecology in architecture in the broadest sense was created — about the reuse of building materials and whole buildings adapted to new functions, and about how greenery permeates projects. We often confront foreign inspiration with the question of the limitations of Polish law. To what extent do good intentions crash against bad regulations? We look for feminist design inspiration. In the context of the current shift away from the cult of aesthetics as the overriding indicator for evaluating architecture, we held a conversation about whether architecture can be a process." — This is what Barbara Nawrocka and Dominika Wilczynska of Miastopracowni, who curate this issue of A&B, write in the introduction to this issue. Theirs is the choice of topics, the authors, the cover and the concept of the entire issue.
In it you will find non-obvious stories about female architects, a debate about new trends that arise from the challenges of the modern world and popularize the ethical and committed attitude of female architects. What you won't find in it is an ebullition of beautiful frames of the "iconic" realizations we know from catalogs. Architecture here is subservient to needs, inclusive and directed at solving local problems, having a real impact on the quality of life of future users.
Enjoy reading this important issue of A&B!
