Green city
"Green is more than a color. It's a philosophy," such a slogan appeared on Benetton's packaging and products some time ago. But we also know green technologies, green roofs, green cities, green architecture - as if everything these days wants to claim to be "green." Another fad or something more?
That we want to live surrounded by greenery and in a healthy, friendly environment is obvious. But what does it actually mean? What do we understand by this term? Finally, what is the green city of this issue's keynote?
Green, healthy cities base their development on carbon reduction, efficient energy system, smart waste management, convenient public transportation, friendly urban spaces, clean air, responsible management of natural resources, sustainable development. These are long-term, comprehensive measures to improve the quality of life for residents. Such things are already happening in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria or Switzerland. In Poland, unfortunately, there is still much to be done in this regard.
