Illumination of the walls of Malbork Castle and the boulevard area on the Nogat River
Malbork Castle is the most powerful fortress of medieval Europe and the largest Gothic castle in the world. Picturesquely located on the Nogat River, the complex of three castles was the capital of the Teutonic state for 150 years. In accordance with the decision of the Malbork City Hall, the modernization of the boulevards around the castle was carried out, along with the illumination of the fortress walls.

As part of the cooperation undertaken, we prepared and implemented a project for the illumination of the above-mentioned zones. Planning began with a thorough analysis and study of the architectural structures of the castle walls and its surroundings.

For the illumination of the historic wall of Malbork Castle, the point method, otherwise known as "light sculpting", was used, allowing to expose important architectural details of the illuminated area. Ground-mounted luminaires of the Naik type were used, having a wide range of optics, high luminous efficiency, the highest class of impact protection IK10. The luminaires were equipped with the so-called "honeycomb" obscurants, eliminating the glare effect, that is, the unpleasant discomfort caused by excessive brightness in the field of view. In addition, the company's design department LIRALIGHTING Sp. z o.o. has developed a sectional control system - allowing the luminaires to be dimmed for a given section of the wall while maintaining the design objectives. The control was based on an advanced router, which has the possibility at a later stage of the investment, to control through an Internet gateway. The power supply for the luminaires was placed in an easily accessible location, which will make servicing the lighting much easier.

The next stage of implementation was the illumination of the boulevards on the Nogat River, which were illuminated with Fat type outdoor posts . The posts use advanced optics, which allowed for precise and even illumination of the entire path while optimizing the number of luminaires. Additionally, this results in increased luminaire spacing and energy savings.

Castomized Slant outdoor posts were used to illuminate the platforms . The modification used in the construction of the luminaire allowed the lighting to fit perfectly with the specially designed structure of the protective railings mounted on the piers.

The boulevards on the Nogat River are now a place that has acquired a new expression and atmosphere. It is a place that allows to serve recreation and leisure, not only for the residents of Malbork, but also for tourists who come in large numbers to visit one of the most beautiful buildings of medieval Europe.

Preparing a project to illuminate such a prestigious object as Malbork Castle became a huge challenge, and at the same time a sheer pleasure. The use of luminaires designed for the illumination of historic buildings, allowed us to maintain all the design assumptions. The investment has already been completed.
