JURY OPINION
The main goal of the project is to create a model example of how to restore the value of a degraded urban fabric while strengthening social ties. The project proposes changes in the existing buildings, new residential buildings, a solution to the parking problem and new development of the square inside the development with an interesting system of pavilions.
The new buildings are to be erected using prefabricated timber frame technology. The technology chosen is characterized by energy efficiency and the possibility of easy assembly, disassembly and reuse. At the same time, the author proposes the establishment of a small modular system production hall on the site, where local and future residents could work after appropriate training. Such an approach has both social and transportation implications, and thus reduces the carbon footprint of the new development.
The jury gave high marks to these concepts as well as the proposal to develop the plaza using pavilions. The pavilions can be used partly for commercial purposes and in the organization of space for recreation, storage, plant cultivation and as a place for renewable energy sources and rainwater harvesting.
The jury noted the author's great respect for local traditions and established cultural values, and appreciated the attempt to strengthen them and the restoration of the primacy of common areas presented in the design. The project is also a kind of guideline that allows the solutions to be used universally in the transformation processes of various workers' colonies.
Not without significance for the court's decision was also the graphic form of the study and the high architectural and urbanistic qualities of the design proposal.
