Jury's rationale

A proposal for the architecture of a tenement house based on the consistent use of the rhythm of divisions of the building's form and facade, with the use of a gallery layout allowing the creation of large apartments with light on both sides, providing a real alternative to the multi-family housing on the outskirts of the city. The proposed depth of the building's tract allowed, also through the rhythm of breaks in the volume, for good lighting of the courtyard, the image of which was given by the strips of galleries characteristic of the historical residential development of the northern part of downtown Lodz. The strips of front elevations, emphasized by the rhythm of balconies, gave the building a distinct character, creating a clear image of the development and the intersection of downtown streets.
