Jury opinion
The housing estate was designed using wooden prefabrication on the basis of a proposed system implementing the principles of so-called mass personalization.
The author designed a CLT prefabrication system providing maximum variability of building features, with a minimum number of elements. This created the possibility of personalization, with potential mass applicability. The system proposes a process—an application—in which the user can configure the architecture of the building in an accessible way, tailoring it to individual needs, and it can change over time.
The design concept is an attempt to seek an answer to the question of how to shape and implement architecture for a wide audience and satisfy individual needs and preferences at the same time in times of economic and environmental crisis.
The jury assessed that this is nowadays a key question for those shaping the built environment, and the answer provided by the author fits very well with the assumptions of circular economy and sustainable development. At the same time, the evaluators appreciated the settlement's inclusion in the context and the architectural qualities of the solution.
