Jury opinion
Tomasz Jaróg and Marta Szar, students at the Cracow University of Technology, wanted to give a new meaning to one of the many urban, abandoned places on the planet with their project. The subject of this project is the area of Podgórskie Krzemionki, an extremely interesting green complex rich in diverse flora and characterized by unique terrain with remnants of a former fort. Based on extensive research and analysis, they developed the concept of the "Fortress Park" - a place combining history and nature. They divided the area into four main functional zones: an educational zone with an experience park, a recreational zone with picnic areas, a viewing zone with an observation deck and a nature zone. The diverse functional program is characterized by a geometric layout of paths, which, together with the selected materials and plants, refers to the history of the site. The creation of valuable public spaces has a positive impact on the functioning and development of the city, Tomasz and Marta believe. Therefore, it is extremely important to use similar places in cities and protect them from destruction and oblivion.
