Jury's opinion
The project was awarded for a complete analysis of small-townism in the digital age.
The author has developed a peculiar language of small-townness on the basis of observations of life in Bystrzyca Klodzka. City of Archipelagos was based on the idea of simultaneous alternative realities (digital and wireless). Malomiejski Palimpsest is an attempt to superimpose a contemporary layer of sharing and inhabiting space on the historical divisions of plots and street layout. According to the author, dematerialization is the disappearance of physical places in the town and the creation of their counterparts in the virtual world, the so-called Peaceful Permutations and the emergence of new functions in their place. Access to a global distribution network today makes it possible to conduct sophisticated, highly specialized activities anywhere on earth while enjoying the qualities of small-town life.
