project
"Modernization of the interior design of the restaurant and hotel part of the Ładoga vessel in Szczecin".

supervisor
dr. hab. Mirosława Jarmołowicz

author's description

The Ładoga modernization project includes the main deck with a restaurant and reception area, as well as the upper deck with a pub and hotel rooms. The changes begin with the reconstruction of the walls. On the main deck, the entrance and reception area is being separated from rooms not accessible to guests such as offices, kitchen and utility rooms, which remain outside the study.
The office room closest to the entrance is converted into restrooms for restaurant guests. In addition, the project includes the addition of a room for a parent with a child. The area of the restaurant remains unchanged. The entrance doors will be replaced and widened to double doors so that guests can comfortably enter in larger groups. On the upper deck, there is a complete remodeling of the space. The project reduces the number of rooms from 12 to nine, in order to raise the standard and restore interest in the hotel. A master suite of 32.8 sqm, one family room for 4 people of 24.6 sqm and seven rooms for 2 people ranging in size from 13.3 sqm to 21 sqm are designed. Each room gains more ergonomic space and private bathrooms. The corridor is narrowed to a minimum in order to enlarge the space inside the rooms and place a TV set flush with it in the bold wall. Expanding the space of the largest suite, I change its functions to a cocktail-bar for hotel guests with access to deck chairs on the terrace.

jury's opinion

An undeniable advantage of the presented concept is taking up an interesting and distinctive theme of a floating object with a rich history, also connected with the city of Szczecin. Particularly valuable in this context are the adopted functional and spatial solutions. The materials and colors used make the interior have a consistent and interesting character, referring to the historical context of the object.
The commission also appreciated the fact that tackling such a difficult topic required the analysis of many complex technological solutions and issues related to the design of floating objects. The submitted project also represents an attempt to save a devastated ship whose glory years are long gone.
The concept is further distinguished by the extensive scope of the study and the high level of craftsmanship.
