author's description
The design of the nursery on Mazowiecka Street (Muchomorek) was created with the proper sensory development of children aged 1-3 years in mind. The main goal of the space analysis was to avoid over-stimulating children and to create an environment that would provide them with proximity to nature despite the hustle and bustle of the city. The space was also intended to promote children's personal development, given that they spend a lot of time away from their loved ones. The design of the space was inspired by the Scandinavian style, using natural materials and colors with clean forms. My undergraduate thesis focuses on how properly designed spaces can stimulate the sensory development of children aged 1-3. This period is crucial in a child's development, and understanding the child's experience and interpretation of the environment is important in creating spaces that support their development. The work aims to discover the impact of space on a child's development and identify elements of the environment that can stimulate the senses. The design of the space focuses on stimulating the child's senses, ensuring safety and comfort, and practicality. Through inspiration, as well as analysis of the entire process of human sensory development, I sought to better understand the role of interior design in shaping the experiences of the youngest, showing how thoughtful design can support sensory and overall child development.
jury's opinion
The submitted project represents an individual and interesting approach to the topic of designing spaces for the youngest users. Noteworthy above all is the wide range of detailed and thoroughly developed solutions that encourage the young viewer to play and interact with the environment. Both the adopted functional solutions, spatial layout and means of artistic expression are logical and consistent, and their soft and subdued character justified in a space dedicated to the youngest users.
The commission also appreciated the fact that the author undertook the revitalization of the existing facility, enriching its functions and giving it a new friendly and interesting character.
