Jury Opinion

The honorable mention was awarded for the identification of the problem, in-depth historical analysis, rethinking the ideas guiding modernist cities of the communist era on the example of the city of New Tychy. The project supported by extensive historical analyses of ideas on city planning by Kazimierz Wejchert and Hanna Adamczewska. A balance between functionality, which allows comfortable use of public space, and aesthetics, which introduces artistic elements and architectural beauty to the city, as well as ecology and sustainable development. The presented project is an interesting study and a continuation of the ideas of the city's authors. An in-depth analysis identifies the city's strengths and weaknesses. The author proposes solutions, respecting the idea of the previous project and the continuation of the most important ideas such as modularity, flexibility and the ability to modify buildings and infrastructure to adapt them to the changing needs of residents, as well as paying attention to the basic idea that the design of the city should be based on the idea of public space to serve residents and stimulate their activity and integration. This is in response to the main idea of the competition: Shared space is a value.
