Results of the architectural competition for the concept of development of the former Flora market in Jelenia Góra

descriptionOn February 28th, 2023, an architectural competition for the concept of developing the former Flora market in Jelenia Góra was settled.
The competition was developed by A2P2 architecture & planning studio.
The competition task was to develop an architectural concept for the site of the former Flora market in Jelenia Góra. The aim of the competition was to obtain an architectural concept, the best in terms of program-spatial, social, environmental and economic aspects, optimally utilizing the potential and conditions of the area of the study, and meeting both the expectations of the local community and fitting in with contemporary trends in urban space design.
The study area was historically home to a baroque garden establishment and later horticulture. The competition guidelines called for the creation of a concept for a new meeting place for residents, with a large share of greenery and possible local commerce.
Ten works were submitted for the competition, of which the jury, consisting of:
- Aleksandra Wasilkowska—chairwoman of the court, architect, artist, stage designer, expert in the subject of urban commerce,
- Sylwia Bajor—deputy chairwoman of the Court, head of the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction of the City Council of Jelenia Góra
- Łukasz Pancewicz—referee, urban planner, assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Gdansk University of Technology,
- Urszula Forczek-Brataniec— architect and landscape architect, professor at the Cracow University of Technology in the Department of Landscape Architecture,
- Piotr Górka—architect, advisor to the cities of the Association of Polish Cities
- Renata Kwiatek—acting director of the Development Department of the Jelenia Gora City Council,
- Julian Wajenerowski—Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction of the City Council of Jelenia Gora,
awarded three main prizes.
First Prize in the amount of PLN 35 thousand and an invitation to negotiate a sole-source contract was awarded to Alicja Maculewicz for the Green Quarter project.
Second Prize of PLN 10 thousand was awarded to the team consisting of: Agata Twardoch, Michal Miroslawski, Filip Gawin and Marta Swoszowska.
Third Prize and PLN 5 thousand went to the team composed of: Stanisław Ignaciuk, Krzysztof Kamienobrodzki, Michał Kempinski, Katarzyna Elwart-Karczewska and Maciej Kryński.
The results of the competition form the basis for public consultations on the future of the former Flora area and will be used to establish the assumptions of a new local development plan for the entire study area.
