descriptionIn the competition for the Best Public Space in the Silesian Voivodeship, organized under the patronage of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the winners were selected for the 24th time.
The competition is organized by the Board of the Silesian Voivodeship in cooperation with the Association of Polish Architects Branch in Katowice and the Silesian Branch of the Society of Polish Town Planners. Its purpose is both to promote realizations shaping high-quality public spaces that improve the lives of the region's residents, and to promote local governments that care about spatial order.
In this year's edition, 36 realizations from 25 municipalities competed for prizes and awards. They were judged by representatives of the Board of the Silesian Voivodeship and members of the Voivodeship Urban Planning and Architectural Commission. The public could also award its prize in an online poll.
This year, the Special Prize of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship Jakub Chełstowski was awarded for the modernization and expansion of the Silesian Planetarium in Chorzów. In the Public Facility category, the 1st Prize went to the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, and the 2nd to the expansion of the Kindergarten No. 4 building in Bielsko-Biała. In turn, an honorable mention was awarded to the Ice Cream project in Tychy. In the Public Space category, two equal awards were given - to the Outdoor Cinema in Suszec, also appreciated by the public, and Independence Square in Ruda Śląska. An honorable mention was given to the Planty named after Scoutmaster Stefan Piotrowski in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
