CLOU architects

CLOU is an award-winning international design studio with interdisciplinary expertise in urban planning, architecture, interior and landscape design. Its extensive portfolio includes projects including mixed-use buildings, retail, hotel, educational and exhibition facilities.

CLOU's team is made up of experienced architects from China and other parts of the world, who work together on a variety of projects, combining creativity with innovation. The studio's clients include developers of mixed-use and residential buildings, hotel operators, and government and educational institutions. CLOU strives to create projects that positively impact all parties involved - from the project teams, to the environment and surroundings, to the communities that will use the spaces.

The founder of CLOU is Jan Closterman, who has more than 20 years of international experience. After studying architecture at the Technical University of Berlin, he earned a degree from the Architectural Association in London.

Prior to founding CLOU, he worked with Alsop Architects, where he headed the Beijing office, completing a variety of projects around the world. Since 2005, when he moved to Beijing, Closterman has developed and completed many prestigious mixed-use and commercial projects, as well as master plans and interiors. He is also a frequent speaker at academic and industry forums.

At CLOU, Closterman leads the creative team together with principals Li Lin, Zhang Zhi, Tiago Tavares and Sebastian Loaiza. The studio focuses on developing integrated and tailored design solutions that set innovative architectural typologies that put social value at the center.
