In the 20th and 21st centuries, architecture related to leisure and recreation developed rapidly. The mighty of this world invested in and developed hotel chains and were patrons of global brands, just to mention the Pritzker family, founders of the most important architectural award in the world, owners of the Hyatt hotel chain.
As recent studies show, the post-pandemic reality has changed a lot, including the travel industry. We are increasingly less likely to choose large chain hotels. Rather, we opt for small cozy and intimate homes sunk in the beautiful landscape of mountains, coast or lakes, boutique urban hotels that guarantee intimacy. These enjoy unflagging popularity, perhaps also because they function in the DNA of cities as well-known addresses with well-liked restaurants, cafes and meeting places.
In the issue we present Nobu Hotel, opened in Warsaw in early August and owned by a luxury brand co-owned by Robert De Niro. In it, architects from the medusa group focused on combining Japanese minimalism with the sophisticated art déco style of interwar Warsaw. Also elegant and unique are the hotels of the Puro chain. ASW Architects, authors of the concepts for hotels in Lodz, Poznan and Krakow, looked for the story of a particular city in each project.
We also publish, among others: the mountain homes of The Boats (design: Karpiel Steindel Architektura); the Warsaw hotel (design: APA GBK); Campinus Park (design.: mo:delina™); canoe marina in Augustow (design: PSBA, INOONI), Hyttee rest house (design: Marlena Kilian, Marek Piojda); guesthouses on Wilcza Poreba (design: studio de materia).
