Flotex®: a high-tech carpet floor covering

from the series "Floors, flooring, terraces - trends 2024"

In commercial spaces, the choice of flooring material is dictated by practical considerations, and therefore, in many cases, hard and smooth flooring, such as vinyl flooring or linoleum, is preferred because of the ease of cleaning and care that characterizes them.At the same time, materials with a higher degree of softness and comfort, such as carpeting, are avoided, despite the fact that they are characterized by an aesthetic appearance. Such decisions are usually due to the misconception that carpeting causes a decrease in air quality, as well as the fact that many textile flooring materials are more difficult to clean than hard flooring materials.

why flotex®

However, there is a flooring solution called flotex®, a flocked carpet, manufactured by Forbo Flooring, which is able to offer the comfort, convenience and warmth of carpeting with the durability and ease of cleaning and maintenance of hard flooring. In addition, the unique properties offlotex® flooring help to reduce airborne allergens, thereby improving indoor air quality, making it possible to create a safer, cleaner environment that enhances well-being.

acoustic properties

Today, for many commercial spaces, the acoustic parameters of floors are considered a secondary factor to the practical considerations represented by the flooring material. Nevertheless, the role of the flooring material is increasingly recognized when it comes to reducing noise levels and improving the acoustic characteristics of the surrounding space, and as a result it is considered a key factor in supporting health and well-being in the workplace. The benefit of textile flooring materials such as flotex® is that they reduce interior noise levels by absorbing both impact noise (i.e., the sound of footsteps) and noise propagating through the air.

improving air quality

One of the advantages of flotex® carpeting is its ability to capture dust or other types of particulate matter and allergens such as pet dander and pollen. The contaminants captured in this way can then be easily removed during cleaning, which results in improved indoor air quality and can be particularly beneficial for people who complain of allergies or hypersensitivity to pollutants. The unique design of flotex® carpet, which is characterized by densely placed, vertical and straight nylon fibers, makes it possible not only to capture allergens from the air, but also makes it decidedly easier to clean the carpet and remove the dirt and allergens that have accumulated there, a process that is far easier and more efficient than is the case with standard carpeting. The above-mentioned properties and advantages have made flotex® carpet the only textile flooring to receive the prestigious Allergy UK Seal of Approval.

ease of cleaning and care

One of the inconveniences often associated with textile flooring materials is that cleaning them can be difficult, sometimes even impossible, and takes a lot of time. The cleaning process is not only costly, but also time-consuming. Due to its design, flotex® flooring is much easier to maintain and care for than floors covered with traditional carpeting. flotex® can be easily wet cleaned, drying after wet cleaning is also significantly faster than traditional carpeting, allowing for less downtime, for example, for an office to clean the floor.

durability and convenience

Unlike many traditional textile flooring solutions, flotex® carpet is characterized by significantly better durability and wear resistance, without losing the feeling of comfort and convenience. This is guaranteed by the design of the product, specifically the densely placed nylon 6.6 fibers of up to 80 million fibers per square meter, which make flotex® give the sensation of warmth and comfort. Such a large number of densely spaced vertical nylon fibers at the same time as the short length of each fiber (2 mm) makes flotex® extremely durable and highly resistant to abrasion, to a degree comparable to ceramics. For this reason, flotex® is an excellent solution for commercial areas exposed to heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic of various equipment. Because of its legendary durability, flotex® is chosen for flooring in facilities such as airport terminals, hotels and recreational facilities, and has also become very popular in ski areas.

Now also possible to install without glue

flotex® flooring also comes in a version for adhesive-free installation - an option known as flotex® NEXT and available for most of our collections in roll form. Glueless installation reduces the time spent on installation, and also makes it easier to remove the flooring material at the end of its life. The material is recommended for high-traffic areas where short installation times and quick availability of the floor are important. flotex® NEXT can also be laid with minimal preparation of the floor substrate, and can be walked on immediately after installation, making it possible to lay the flooring with minimal time to take the area out of service. An additional advantage is that there is no adhesive smell lingering in the air after installation.
