Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk Rector of Bialystok University of Technology for the term 2024-2028

Dr. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Prof. PB, will serve a second term as Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. The official result of the election was announced by the University Election Commission, and the new term of the currently serving Rector of Bialystok University of Technology will begin on September 1, 2024.

In the election campaign, Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk referred to her election program from four years ago and declared plans to continue the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Bialystok University of Technology for 2021-2024, which began in 2021, with the perspective of extension until 2030. The document was created with the participation of the entire academic community, as well as external stakeholders, and became an expression of participatory management of the organization. Shortly after the announcement of the results, the Rector of Bialystok University of Technology said:

I feel joy, but also responsibility. Once again the academic community of Bialystok University of Technology has entrusted me with its fate for four years. This is a large organization, with 7,000 students and almost 1,400 employees. The community has once again decided that I will be their leader.

In her next term, the Rector intends to continue and develop a governance model that reflects the nature of the academic community, the Rector's policy of openness and accessibility. She wants to introduce more digital solutions to facilitate the university's operations, as well as modernize and expand the university's infrastructure. Partners from the socio-economic environment are to play an even more active role, from the recruitment of university candidates to the co-creation of study programs, the implementation of apprenticeships and graduation theses. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk announces:

I will continue the existing activities and the good solutions that we have prepared together with the community. I hope that this will be a period of further dynamic activities at Bialystok University of Technology in accordance with the expectations of our entire community. I count on the development of our unique scientific specialties, on the development of internationalization, on the development of our educational services, on the modernization and expansion of our infrastructure and on building the recognition of our university here in the country, but also abroad, and all this with the great participation of the entire community of our university.

Systemic support of scientific disciplines represented at Bialystok University of Technology. Supporting innovative and interdisciplinary research directions. Promotion of internationalization of scientific research.

Study programs developing competencies of the future in line with European requirements. Interdisciplinary education with the participation of industrial partners and other institutions. Flexible organization of the didactic process.

  1. Strong internal structure and recognizable brand

Supporting initiatives of employees, students and doctoral students improving the structures and functioning of the university. Improving the principles of rewarding efficiency, productivity, competence and creativity. Relieving employees of bureaucracy. Stable financial condition of the university. Consistency and authenticity of the brand.

  1. Favorable relations with the environment

Creating Bialystok University of Technology as a place to discuss the development of the region in terms of joint, sustainable economic development. Identifying and monitoring the needs of the business and administrative environment. Developing a network of cooperation with universities from the region, the country, Europe and the world.

The University Council of Bialystok University of Technology, by a resolution dated April 15, 2024, designated three candidates to serve as Rector of Bialystok University of Technology: Dr. Aleksander Asanowicz, Prof. Slawomir Bakier and Dr. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Prof. PB.

On May 27, 2024, the candidates took part in a student debate, in which they answered questions from the Student Government of Bialystok University of Technology. Two days later, on May 29, Dr. Aleksander Asanowicz resigned from the election.

The Electoral College of Bialystok University of Technology, consisting of one hundred electors selected from among the academic community of Bialystok University of Technology in earlier elections, was eligible to participate in the secret ballot. On June 6, 2024, all electors participated in the election, with the current Rector receiving 76 votes of support and Prof. Slawomir Bakier receiving 28 votes.

Dr. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Prof. PB

Bialystok native, graduate of the Faculty of Construction and Environmental Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology. The first woman to hold the position of Rector in the university's 75-year history. She has been President of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum since 2022. She started working at Bialystok University of Technology in 1995. In 2002, she received a doctorate in technical sciences in the discipline of construction, and in 2014 she became a postdoctoral fellow. From 2005 to 2012, she was vice-dean for student affairs and teaching at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology, and from 2015 to 2020, she was head of the Department of Building Structures at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Sciences at Bialystok University of Technology. From 2016 to 2019, she was vice-rector for education and international cooperation, and from 2019 to 2020, she was vice-rector for international cooperation.

Her research interests include durability of concrete structures and innovative solutions for structural reinforcement. She is the author and co-author of nearly 200 scientific publications. She was the supervisor of 115 engineering and master's theses. She has taught at more than a dozen foreign universities.
