Pressed connections in gas installations. 10 years of Profipress G in Poland

01 of June '20

Safe gas installation. Fast installation with the Profipress G press system | AiB

Viega's introduction of the Profipress G system to the Polish market was a real breakthrough for the installation industry. Fast and safe pressed connections could from now on also be used in gas installations, as in other European countries. Contractors welcomed this innovation with great enthusiasm, which allowed them to work much faster, easier and safer.

Until 2010, according to Polish construction law, copper pipes in gas installations could only be connected with hard solder. Viega had been working for a long time to change this, meeting the expectations of contractors and investors. The breakthrough came in the 2009 Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure, allowing the use of other methods of joining pipes, provided that they meet the requirements for tightness and durability specified in the Polish Standard for gas pipes for buildings. After obtaining technical approval, certificates of conformity from the Oil and Gas Institute and issuing a declaration of conformity, the Profipress G system was approved for sale and use in our country.

The product quickly gained the recognition of installers, even though the beginnings of its use were not always easy.

Our first project made with the Profipress G system was an estate of 169 row houses in Dobrzykowice. In the beginning, there were some problems with gasworks, which were reluctant to accept press-fitted installations, as the new technology was not yet widespread," recalls Mateusz Robotnikowski, owner of INS-MATRO.

Montaż w technice zaprasowywania trwa nawet o 50% krócej, w porównaniu z lutowaniem.

Installation using the press technology takes up to 50% less time, compared to soldering. The fitting is simply slid onto the pipe to the marked depth and then pressed with a press tool, which takes literally seconds.

Convenient solution with guaranteed safety

Profipress G is a proven system for connecting EN 1057-compliant copper pipes with diameters from 12 to 54 mm. It is designed for building safe and efficient gas installations and laying pipes in difficult conditions. All fittings are equipped with a top-quality sealing element made of HNBR. Clear yellow marking of components excludes the possibility of confusion. Threaded transitions and special connectors are made of durable bronze. Maximum safety is guaranteed by the characteristic SC-Contur profile. Thanks to this solution, any mistakenly unpressed connection will be immediately detected during the leak test. The pressure range for the test for gaseous media is 22 mbar to 3 bar. Profipress G fittings can also be used for heating oil and diesel pipes.

Faster and more convenient installation

Installation using Viega's press technology takes up to 50% less time, compared to soldering, while eliminating the dangers of handling open flames. In addition, when using brazing, the elevated temperature of the connector (more than 450°C) can damage the copper oxide layer that protects the material from corrosion. The quality of the connections therefore depends largely on the efficiency and experience of the contractor. Viega press systems eliminate all these problems. Here, the fitting is simply slid onto the pipe to the marked depth and then pressed electrohydraulically with a press tool, which takes a few seconds.

Nowadays, we practically always choose cold pressing when installing gas installations. This is determined by the speed of work, the aesthetics of the connections and safety considerations. In addition, making pressed connections is much simpler and more convenient than soldering, and Viega Pressgun crimping machines allow easy installation even in hard-to-reach places, says Mateusz Robotnikowski.
